A LAUNDROMAT STORY - Examination Project Short Film

This is a very short and abstract CG short film, made for my Examination project at Visual Magic, to conclude my past two years of VFX studies. Ever since I got into VFX I've been eager to create a CG short film of my own, and this project enabled me to fulfil that dream.

I wanted to focus on something visually interesting and more abstract, paying a lot of attention towards Lighting and Post effects to get the look I was aiming for.

Once again I used Motion Capture for my character animations, applying it to a metahuman via Motionbuilder.

I used a combination of readymade assets and custom ones for the environment itself. Asset creation takes a lot of time, so it was necessary to not create everything from scratch, but focusing on hero assets instead, such as the Laundry Machines and the plastic bench.

Throughout this project my skills inside Unreal Engine 5 have improved a lot and I feel inspired to keep learning about this intreaging software. I've also gained new respect for motionbuilder, deep diving into some neat features and realising its potential.

To conclude, this has been a massive project for me, spending close to 300 hours. I'm very pleased and proud of what I've produced, especially with how close it turned out to the original vision.

Hope you like it! :)
